GRM for the NCSCR Project
The Nile Civil Society for Climate Resilience (NCSCR) Project aims to promote civil society participation in advancing cooperation in the management and development of transboundary waters in the Nile Basin.
The Nile Basin Discourse (NBD) is a civil society institution established with the support of donors, including the World Bank, in 2003 to strengthen civil society participation in Nile Basin developmental processes and programs. NBD has received funds from World Bank / CIWA Trust Fund to implement the NCSCR Project, with the involvement of NBD’s National Nile Discourse Forums (NDFs).
The activities under the project involve community engagements and capacity building in citizen led data management, community consultations with respect to transboundary development projects, capacity building of the NDFs, training of communities on approaches to adapt to and mitigate climate change, Women’s empowerment and youth engagement in dialogues on Nile cooperation and transboundary water management, and internship program including recruitment of interns and Young Professional in the 10 member countries.
In accordance with the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards, NBD is required to establish a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM). The purpose of the GRM is to allow communities, project stakeholders or other groups who believe that they may be negatively affected by the Project to raise their concerns to NBD; and NBD is expected to address/resolve them in a timely, effective, and efficient manner that satisfies all parties involved.
Site specific complaint intake systems will be made available in the form of suggestion boxes, and in-person delivery of grievances to the assigned focal persons, whereas any grievance related with project activities in the Nile basin countries may be addressed using the four-step process below:
