This activity brief presents the outcomes of a Transboundary Community Consultation and Dialogue on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Climate Adaptation in the Kagera Basin, bringing together stakeholders from Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania under the Nile Civil Society for Climate Resilience (NCSCR) Project. The dialogue provided a platform for communities, government institutions, civil society, and regional actors to exchange experiences, identify shared challenges, and strengthen cooperation on sustainable water and natural resource management.
Drawing on presentations, community discussions, and stakeholder consultations, the report highlights key environmental and governance challenges affecting the basin, including land degradation, wetland encroachment, water pollution, and climate variability. It also captures community-driven adaptation practices, priority actions for strengthening climate resilience, and recommendations for enhancing inclusive, cross-border, and community-centred approaches to IWRM across the Kagera Basin.
