Piloting Citizen-Generated Data for Climate Resilience in the Nile Basin - Sio-Siteko Wetland Field Reconnaissance Brief

This brief presents findings from reconnaissance field activities conducted in the Sio-Siteko Trans-boundary Wetland, a shared ecosystem between Kenya and Uganda, under the Nile Civil Society for Climate Resilience (NCSCR) Project. The mission assessed ecological conditions, engaged communities and stakeholders, and explored opportunities for piloting citizen-generated data systems to strengthen climate resilience and support sustainable wetland management.

Drawing on field observations, community consultations, and technical engagements across 25 sites, the report highlights key environmental and governance challenges affecting the wetland, including habitat degradation, declining ecosystem services, pressure on natural resources, and weak trans-boundary coordination. It also identifies opportunities for community-led monitoring and provides recommendations for strengthening inclusive, data-driven, and collaborative approaches to wetland conservation and climate resilience in the Sio-Siteko Wetland.
